Power-to-gas & methanation systems

Description

Wind and solar power are having an increasing role in power production. Due to their own nature, they cannot be scheduled. Energy storage will become a priority to balance renewable production and energy demand.

In this context, power-to-gas will play a key role for electric power infrastructure: a provider of flexibility for the energy storage.

Hydrogen produced from power overproduction can be injected in the grid, after an appropriate mixing in a blending station, guaranteeing the compliance with gas network specifications.

Alternatively, thanks to methanogenic organisms, hydrogen can be combined with carbonic streams and transformed into methane, getting fully acceptable for direct network injection: an efficient way to store energy and at the same time intercept CO2 emissions.
